If we decide to start monitoring our own blood pressure at home there are basically two different kinds of blood pressure machines we can choose from, an aneroid monitor (also known as a manual monitor) and a digital monitor. They both have their pros and cons that we can briefly look at.

Aneroid monitors are the ones that we are accustomed to seeing at the doctors office. They have a cuff that wraps around your upper arm that is inflated manually by a hand pump. The measurement is taken by reading the location of the dial in combination with a stethoscope to listen to the heart beat. The main advantage of an aneroid blood pressure machine is that it’s the most accurate way to read blood pressure. The cuff of aneroid machines are also easy to wrap around the arm with most models. The main disadvantage of an aneroid device is that it is more complicated to use than a digital blood pressure machine. Aneroid devices are also more fragile and easier to break.

Digital monitors were designed as a less complicated way to take blood pressure at home. They don’t require you to listen to the stethoscope, that is automatically taken care of in this device and factored into the reading. The digital screen of these devices are also easier to read and can store results over time. The cuff on most models inflates automatically and always deflates automatically which also makes for ease of use. The main con is that the readings can be less accurate than with aneroid monitors. The cuff of digital devices can also be a little more tricky to put on than with aneroid devices, although the cuff is easier to operate once in place.

A third option would be to choose a wrist or finger blood pressure machine. Wrist and finger devices are also digital. They are less recommended because they are less accurate than both aneroid and digital devices that use the upper arm for a reading. However they make a good alternative if you have arthritis or another health condition that would make it difficult to take a reading at the upper arm.

Those who study age related illness like Alzheimer’s and high blood pressure have found a link between these and the fact that as you age the levels of CoQ10 begin to decline in your body. Taking CoQ10 as a supplement has been shown to help lower your blood pressure and improve your overall health. Whatever form you would like to take this supplement in, it is likely available, since it comes in capsules, tablets, liquids and varying strengths levels. It’s important to get it from a trusted source, because supplements only help if they are properly absorbed into your body.

When treating your high blood pressure as well as other ailments is apple cider vinegar. It is as simple as mixing a tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar with a teaspoon of raw honey. It helps control blood pressure when taken two to three times per day, by having a tonic effect on the body. Apple cider vinegar helps to balance the sodium levels in your body, along with other things that need a good natural source of potassium. While helpful, to realistically control your high blood pressure you will need to pay attention to your diet as well as your daily habits. Your situation and the cause of your high blood pressure will be unique to you, as will be the remedy you choose for yourself.
